Sunny Boy Foods has been featured in the Western Grocer. The article focuses on why organics are important and features a great profile on our company.

From The Article:

“Sunny Boy Foods aims at keeping ingredients high quality. This can only be enhanced by the inclusion of organics. It’s a natural progression in the goal of providing healthy alternatives. Moreover, being certified organic provides the consumer with the insurance that these products are free of pesticides and support environmentally friendly farming practices. The Sunny Boy mill has maintained organic certification for over six years. It has also recently met the criteria for the new Canada Organic Standard.”

An Edmonton Journal article discussing consumer consciousness, and how producers are responding to growing demands for healthy, earth-friendly foods.

From the Article:

“While maintaining the [Sunny Boy] tradition, the Shapkas have reinvented Sunny Boy marketing strategies from the ground up.

One of those strategies is to minimize their products’ food miles by buying milling grains from local farmers and increasing the presence of their products on local shelves.

Food miles is a term that applies to the distance a food must travel from the field to your fork. The lower the food miles traveled, the lower the impact on the environment, through farming practices and fossil-fuel transportation.”

Ingredients

3 ½ cups (875 ml) Sunny Boy Organic Unbleached All-Purpose Flour

2 ½ cups (625 ml) Sunny Boy Organic Whole Wheat Flour

2 tbsp (30 ml) active dry yeast

3 cups (750 ml) milk

⅓ cup (85 ml) brown sugar

2 tsp (10 ml) salt

3 tbsp (45 ml) liquid vegetable shortening

Preparation

Combine the flours. Place the yeast and 3 cups of the combined flour into a large mixing bowl.
